New car sales figures, the bitter truth

new car buying figures september sales
Well we’ve been saying for a while now that the new car market was suffering, so here is the truth.

New car sales are down 21% year on year and 18% down in the last 3 months.

The Top 10 sellers for September were;

1 Vauxhall Corsa 15647 units ¦
2
Ford Fiesta 13316 ¦
3
Vauxhall Astra 12965 ¦
4
Ford Focus 12683 ¦
5
VW Golf 10048 ¦
6
Peugeot 207 8417 ¦
7
BMW Mini 7116 ¦
8
BMW 3 Series 7027 ¦
9
Ford Mondeo 6341 ¦
10
VW Polo 6138 ¦

The Vauxhall Corsa didn’t quite do enough to knock the Ford Focus of the top spot for the overall figures so far this year so the Focus remains the UK’s top seller. The big movers in the market this year have been the Diesel cars with market share up 42%.
We wonder at MTI whether, like the banking sector, this government will step in and give some much needed assistance to the car industry, they could start by abandoning plans for the grossly unfair increases in car tax! (don’t hold your breath)
