Fiat is dipping its toes in the water by launching its special edition 500by diesel model, exclusively for on-line retail sale. Customers will get the chance to spec the car order it, track its progress and make the final payment. The only physical contact they will have is by choosing to collect the new car from their nearest fiat dealer. The potential success of this pilot scheme could ultimately be copied by other car makers and would certainly keep expenses down and should theoretically make cars bought in this way cheaper .If the technology is efficient enough this could be a winner for consumers and dealers alike and with some in the trade predicting that 45% of customers will aim to buy their next car on-line from order to collection over the next 2 years, then we really will see the future through the virtual car showroom.
Not sure what will happen when it comes to the test-drive or how you will be able to negotiate but I’m sure some wise person will think of something!
