M P Value for money

It is getting very close to what the trade calls “MPV season”, where buyers flock into showrooms looking for an MPV for their spring or summer holiday. This year there may well be an even greater demand as people opt for holidaying in the UK rather than abroad as the Pound continues to get battered on the currency exchange markets. There is always a strange phenomenon in car sales that dealers can stock people carriers – and let’s face it most car makers have an example – right through the months of September to February with little or no interest from buyers but get into February/March and demand goes crazy.

It’s almost as if families sit around tables up and down the land thinking ‘why don’t a few of us get together and hit CenterParcs or go camping etc’ and suddenly showrooms are inundated by enquiries for these cars which can carry both multi passengers and also top boxes, bikes and loads of luggage, basically everything needed for your traditional British holiday adventure.

This year however expect demand to be even greater, after all no matter how bad things are we still all need a holiday and if swapping the existing vehicle for one of these MPV’s helps to bring that adventure to life – and it is reckoned that more of us than ever will choose a UK destination for our annual leave this year – then get down to a showroom now whilst everyone else is still thinking about it. Rest assured that when the sun comes out and the daffodils start sprouting, thoughts will turn to leisure and most of these type of vehicles will be potentially much more expensive.

Take for example a VW Touran; currently a 08/08 1.9TDI SE example which was approximately £17,000 new will cost somewhere around £12,000 but take it from us when the sun shines and the days grow longer that will be more like £13,000!

Bring on the MPV’s…some good (Touran, Galaxy)…some bad (Viano, Tacuma)…and some just plain awful (Rodius, Matrix)
