Hang on a minute isn’t China still a communist country? Well you’d be forgiven for thinking otherwise as Mercedes-Benz have just reported it sold 52 percent more cars in China in June compared with a year earlier.
Mercedes-Benz Cars, which includes the Mercedes and Smart brands, had a volume of more than 5,100 cars in China last month, the company said in a statement.
First-half sales, which reciebed a boost from the April launch of the Smart ForTwo minicar, totaled 27,000 units, up 50 percent from a year earlier, the company said.
Car sales in China, the world’s largest vehicle market, rebounded strongly from an all-time low in 2008, bolstered mostly by government initiatives, including aggressive cuts in sales tax for small cars and rebates for buyers in rural areas.
