UK registrations of new cars in August rose just over 5 per cent to 66,600 vehicles from 63,225 in August 2008, according to industry figures obtained by Motor Trader Magazine.
The second consecutive monthly increase (following the 2.4 per cent rise in July) is attributed to the scrappage scheme, but year-to-date sales figures are down over 21.5 per cent on last year.
Korean car maker Hyundai once again turned in an exceptional performance building its market share to 5.6 per cent share for the month with 3,725 registrations.
All eyes are now turning to the all important September plate-change month to see how that performs.
