The new Chrysler 300C goes on sale in the UK on 14th June and, according to Chrysler, is even more generously equipped, more efficient and safer than its predecessor. Bold claims indeed so let’s take a closer look at this latest version of the big and audacious executive saloon.
The new 300C comes with a 3.0 litre V6 turbo diesel engine which incorporates the Fiat MultiJet 2 technology generating 236bhp while also managing an impressive 39.8mpg and 185g/km of CO2, the perfect blend of power and efficiency and just 2 specification levels, Limited and Executive, cutting down on the often bewildering spec levels of rivals in this class. The Limited version comes with ventilated front and heated rear seats, dual-zone climate control, an 8.4-inch touch screen display, mirrors that darken automatically to limit headlight glare, cruise control, and 18-inch wheels as standard. While the Executive specification includes a Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) system, radar Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and a two-panel panoramic sunroof as well as the forward collision monitoring system and 20-inch alloy wheels.
According to Chrysler the biggest change drivers will notice is with the build quality with every step of the design, engineering and production process having been refined. From the high grade materials and redesigned Nappa leather upholstery to the real wood panels on the dashboard, everything comes from a “quality first” stand point.
This is in every way a luxury executive saloon with lavish equipment levels coming as standard, unlike most of its rivals in this sector. The equipment features are quite mouth-watering with keyless go, fully adjustable steering column with memory, automatic headlights including Adaptive Forward Lighting (AFL) which adjusts the headlight beam up to 15 degrees to the left or right depending on which direction the front wheels are pointing. The 300C also comes with the cutting edge Uconnect system which uses voice commands for safety and Bluetooth for connectivity. It comes with a USB and iPod port in the centre arm rest and is equipped and 8.4 inch touch screen and DVD player.
The new 300C is also billed as one of the safest on the road with all the latest safety features built in to the new model from the ground up. With Forward Collision Warning (FCW) (executive version only), Rear Cross Path Detection (RCP) and Ready Alert Braking, which can predict if the driver is starting an emergency braking procedure, reducing the time it takes for the brakes to be applied, just a few of the stand out safety features.
The new 300C has also struck the right balance between comfort and performance making it a real “driver’s car”. Add to that the classic American styling which will ensure it stands out from the crowd then Chrysler is surely on to a winner.
